The City’s construction contractor, Barriere Construction Co., LLC is currently 50 percent done repaving the roadways within Joe W. Brown Memorial Park. The $1.2M construction project is the second of three projects planned in the park.
Crews are currently wrapping up excavation activities in Phase 2 A/B of the project, which includes removing and replacing existing asphalt pavement on Nature Center Drive from Read Boulevard to the new bridge over the North Lagoon, and then continuing from the bridge to the intersection of Nature Center Drive. Asphalt operations are scheduled to start later this month.
Park patrons are reminded to respect safety fencing, barrels and signage on site and not to walk into or over excavation sites which may be up to 12 inches deep at certain sections.
In general, construction crews are working from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The project scope of work also includes replacing damaged portions of sidewalks, installing Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant ramps and minor roadway striping. Multiple construction crews will be on site during each phase of construction. Park patrons are asked to be mindful of construction equipment, safety signage, barricades and signs. Construction equipment should not be moved from its assigned location.
