Barriere Construction crews are working to complete work on both Crete and Lepage streets on the $23M Bayou St. John, Fairgrounds, Seventh Ward Group B roadway improvement project. Work was delayed on these blocks as the contractor worked with both the Department of Public Works and Sewerage and Water Board on needed expanded scope. Crews have now completed the waterline tie-in to the existing water supply and paving operations are anticipated to commence in the next couple weeks.
Work is also ongoing In other areas of the project, including Ponce de Leon and North Roman streets. Work on Agriculture Street has been coordinated with local schools and after school programs to ensure that construction impacts are minimal and completed as quickly as possible.
The community will continue to be informed ahead of any work that will involve utility disruption and / or impact their parking and access to their streets. Residents are asked to continue to be mindful of “No Parking” signs installed prior to roadwork. Vehicles are eligible for towing if not moved within 24 hours of signs being placed. Residents requiring reasonable accommodations should call the RoadworkNOLA hotline for assistance.
This project was designed by Digital Engineering and Imaging, Inc and expected to be completed in spring 2022.
The scope of work varies by block and includes the following:
- Repave the asphalt roadway from curb-to-curb;
- Patch the roadway with asphalt or concrete;
- Repair damaged sidewalks and driveway
aprons;
- Install Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant
- curb ramps at intersection; and
- Replace / repair damaged underground water,
sewer, and / or drainage lines.
The City of New Orleans hosted a virtual community meeting via Webex in November 2020 to discuss anticipated impacts to the community. View a copy of the presentation here. To be added to the project contact list and track our progress, visit roadwork.nola.gov.
