The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, City of New Orleans, Regional Planning Commission and Federal Highway Administration will soon complete reconstruction of the $19.5M Wisner Bridge. The Wisner Bridge runs parallel to Bayou St. John and connects Wisner Blvd. over Interstate-610. The existing concrete girder was demolished when construction began in late 2015. The new steel girder bridge is 1800 ft. long, 65-ft wide and is being placed in the same location as the previous bridge.
The new bridge will include two 12 ft. travel lanes in each direction and one 12 ft. pedestrian and bicycle path along Bayou St. John.
The Wisner Bridge was designed by Rahman & Associates, Inc. and the construction contractor is Boh Bros. Construction Co., LLC.
Lake bound traffic on Wisner Blvd. is currently detoured to Desaix Blvd. and St. Bernard Ave. Riverbound traffic on Wisner Blvd. is being detoured to Harrison Ave. and Marconi Dr.
Residents and commuters should use caution when driving, walking or bicycling near active construction sites.
