The Hagan-Lafitte Project continues as Command Construction upgrades the drainage capacity with semipermeable concrete on St. Peter Street. The surface, which will allow water to flow through it into the drainage system, will help alleviate flooding in the neighborhood.
While final street paving, curb replacement and catch basin construction has started, crews will begin working to connect large drainage tie-ins to the St. Louis Canal.
The $7.1M Hagan-Lafitte project is a "gray-green" infrastructure project that will feature upsized drainage, urban bioswales and a huge water storage facility located underneath Easton Park.
The goals for the project, which is scheduled to be complete by summer 2020 weather permitting, include:
- Increasing drainage to reduce flooding;
- Utilizing green infrastructure to slow, retain, and absorb storm water;
- Beautifying with green areas;
- Replenishing groundwater; and
- Storing rainwater underground.
