On Monday, April 26, weather permitting, City of New Orleans, Department of Public Works’ contractor, Boh Bros Construction, LLC, will close the 1700 block of Desire Street (North Roman to North Derbigny) to vehicular traffic for approximately four weeks to accommodate construction on the St. Claude Group E full-depth reconstruction project. Residents in this area are being notified of the closure via a neighborhood canvass this week.
During this time, crews will be fully reconstructing the roadway with a new surface and new underground water, sewer and drainage lines. Public safety is our priority; barricades will be placed a block away in all directions.
The entire project is scheduled to be complete in winter 2021, weather permitting. In general, the contractor is working from 7 a.m. until sunset up to seven days per week.
Since May 2018, 28 roadwork projects totaling $151 million have been completed. Today, more than 60 roadwork projects are under construction, valued at nearly $600 million.
