Barriere Construction and their subcontractor Dieudonne Enterprises, Inc. began forming and pouring Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant ramps in July. Crews have installed 44 new ADA ramps and are now 55 percent complete with this area of work on the project. Ramps are being formed and poured on both sides of St. Charles Avenue – including the area around the streetcar tracks. City contractors continue to work with the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) to ensure minimal disruption to street car service.
The project, a joint effort between the City of New Orleans and the Louisiana Department of Transportation, is currently 20 percent complete. The project is expected to be completed by late fall 2018.
This $1.3M project, designed by Linfield, Hunter, and Junius, LLC., includes the following scope of work:
- Repaving the asphalt roadway from curb-to-curb;
- Installing ADA curb ramps at intersections;
- Repairing damaged sidewalks adjacent to ADA ramps;
- Patching in preparation for the next phase of construction; and
- Replacing street tiles.
