The Department of Public Works’ construction contractor Hard Rock Construction, LLC is scheduled to begin work on the first of four planned construction projects designed to improve infrastructure in the Desire neighborhood this summer.
The project team is in the process of increasing the project scope, so excavation tasks have been temporarily delayed until the sequencing schedule can be revised. At this time, the total estimated budget including engineering, design, geotechnical testing and construction planned for the entire Desire neighborhood is approximately $24M. This budget is likely to change when the scope is finalized for each contract.
Designed by Phoenix Global Engineering and Construction, Inc., the locations of excavation sites within the project limits are currently being marked and measured by staff. Excavation is scheduled to begin in August and will continue for the duration of construction.
The scope of work of this project varies by block and includes:
- Patch Mill / Overlay: Repaving the asphalt roadway from curb to curb and repairing damaged sidewalks;
- Patch Concrete: Removing damaged portions of the concrete roadway and replacing them with new, smooth concrete pavement;
- Incidental Road Repairs: Removing damaged portions of the asphalt roadway and replacing them with new, smooth pavement; and
- Non-Paving Incidentals: Repairing damaged sidewalks, driveway aprons and curbs within the public right-of-way.
The City hosted a pre-construction public meeting to discuss anticipated construction impacts prior to the start of construction. View a copy of the presentation here. To be added to the project contact list, and to track our progress, visit RoadWork.nola.gov.
