Durr Heavy Construction, LLC crews have completed 12 percent of the Westbank Group A project scope. Crews continue to excavate damaged concrete panels and remove the top layer of asphalt pavement on several blocks including Thayer and Atlantic streets. Asphalt repaving work is scheduled to take place later this month. Concrete crews are working on framing up and installing new Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps and sidewalks in the Whitney neighborhood.
The Westbank Group A project is the first of two planned FEMA-funded construction projects on the Westbank of New Orleans. This first project was designed by Richard C. Lambert Consultants, LLC and includes approximately $3.7M in construction work throughout the Westbank.

The type of work planned varies by block but includes the following:
- Patch Mill / Overlay: Repave the asphalt roadway from curb to curb and repair damaged sidewalks;
- Patch Concrete: Remove damaged portions of the concrete roadway and replace them with new, smooth concrete pavement;
- Incidental Road Repairs: Remove damaged portions of the asphalt roadway and replace them with new smooth pavement; and
- Non-Paving Incidentals: Repair damaged sidewalks, driveway aprons and curbs within the public right-of-way.
The City hosted a pre-construction public meeting to discuss the project’s construction sequencing and anticipated impacts. View a copy of the presentation here.
