Extensive street construction started on the Hagan Lafitte Drainage Project as Command Construction crews rolled out and press asphalt to form finished surfaces.
The street paving and sidewalk repair started on the North Rendon and Toulouse Street intersection and will continue throughout the project area. Command will then move to grade Easton Park as one of the final portions of the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program project.
The $7.1M Hagan-Lafitte project is a "gray-green" infrastructure project that will feature upsized drainage, urban bioswales and a huge water storage facility located underneath Easton Park.
The goals for the project, which is scheduled to be complete by fall 2020 weather permitting, include:
- Increasing drainage to reduce flooding;
- Utilizing green infrastructure to slow, retain, and absorb storm water;
- Beautifying with green areas;
- Replenishing groundwater; and
- Storing rainwater underground.
