Command Construction Industries, LLC continues working on the river side of S. Galvez Street between Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Toledano Street. Traffic is being detoured to S. Claiborne Avenue and S. Broad Street for the duration of construction, which is now scheduled to last through February 2019.
Construction crews encountered unforeseen site conditions during excavation on the river side of the project. Combined with poor weather, the schedule is being extended until February of 2019.
Crews are currently installing a 50 foot portion of new sewer line on the river bound side of S. Galvez Street. New sewer house connections are being installed simultaneously, as needed. Utility work is now scheduled to last through December 2018. Concrete paving work is tentatively scheduled to occur weekly for the remainder of the project duration.
The S. Galvez Street Infrastructure Improvement Project will enhance the public area and trigger subsequent recovery and investment in surrounding neighborhoods. The project was designed in accordance with the City of New Orleans’ Complete Streets policy.
The scope of work for this project includes full reconstruction of the roadway, including:
- Replacing the existing sewer, water and drainage lines;
- Widening the neutral ground;
- Narrowing the roadway from 35 feet to 26 feet; and
- Reconfiguring the roadway from two travel lanes and one parking lane to one travel lane, one dedicated bicycle lane and one parking lane.
