The City has completed major construction on the first phase of the French Quarter Infrastructure Improvement Project in the 100–400 blocks of Bourbon Street. Improvements included:
- Enhancing Public Safety: Upgrading street lighting, adding more security cameras and installing a new movable safety bollard system;
- Reducing Service Outages: Increasing the number of water valves on each block that will minimize water outages during future maintenance and improve water pressure;
- Improving drainage: Upgrading the drainage system to minimize flooding during rain events and prevent stagnant water on the pavement and sidewalks;
- Upgrading Sewer System: Rehabilitating the sewer system to transport sewer water into the pumping system more rapidly; and
- Enhanced Reliability: Installing a new high pressure natural gas system to improve reliability of service to businesses along this corridor.
Phase II of the FQIIP will be bid through a separate contract this spring. The Department anticipates construction to begin in May 2018 and last through the end of the year.
Residents and business owners in the French Quarter can expect to be updated on construction status via weekly e-mail updates and in person bi-weekly meetings. To be added to the project contact list, email roadwork@nola.gov. View the project webpage here.
