The Hagan-Lafitte Project continues as Command Construction completed a large drainage tie in and began prep work for paving on Toulouse Street. Eventually, bioswales will be installed throughout the streetscape in order to help drain excessive water from the neighborhood.
In the next few weeks, crews will begin working to connect large drainage pipes to the St. Louis Canal under the Lafitte Greenway. All pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be detoured around the Greenway’s path onto a new surface while construction continues. The schedule for the above detours will be communicated in advance.
The $7.1M Hagan-Lafitte project is a "gray-green" infrastructure project that will feature upsized drainage, urban bioswales and a huge water storage facility located underneath Easton Park.
The goals for the project, which is scheduled to be complete by Summer 2020 weather permitting, include:
- Increasing drainage to reduce flooding;
- Utilizing green infrastructure to slow, retain, and absorb storm water;
- Beautifying with green areas;
- Replenishing groundwater; and
- Storing rainwater underground.
