In November, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) began an improvement project along North Claiborne between Poydras Street and St. Bernard Avenue. It also includes LA 39 from St. Bernard Avenue to the west side of the Judge Seeber Bridge.

The project is broken into three phases: crews began work between Franklin Ave. and the Judge Seeber Bridge, then will move to the area between St. Bernard Ave. and Franklin Ave., before moving to North Claiborne Ave. between Poydras St. and St. Bernard Ave.  The contractor will complete each phase in its entirety before moving to the next phase.

The scope of the road improvement project includes intersection improvements at Gravier Street and Esplanade Avenue, as well as a two-inch mill and overlay of the roadway with asphalt, installation of new ADA-compliant curb ramps, replacement of guard rails, and the application of new pavement striping and markers.

The Mayor’s Office of Economic Development, RoadworkNOLA, Stay Local and representatives from DOTD met with businesses along the corridor to discuss construction impacts. 

There are no lane closures allowed between 7 – 9 a.m. and from 3—7 a.m., Monday through Friday, and at least one lane in each direction will be open at all times. No work will take place during Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Jazz Fest, Thanksgiving, and Christmas holiday periods, as well as during New Orleans Saints home game. All lanes will be open in preparation for or during any hurricane evacuation procedures.
