The majority of the new sidewalks have been poured from Robert E. Lee Boulevard to Jewel Street and crews are wrapping up the last few sewer house connections. All curbs and gutters have been installed and the binder (layer between the foundation and wearing course) and wearing (upper layer of the roadway) courses of asphalt are being placed. Roadway striping is scheduled for completion in early March. The project remains on schedule to be complete in spring 2021, weather permitting.
The scope of the $4.5M Canal Boulevard Reconstruction project includes replacing the drain, sewer and water lines, rebuilding the street entirely, repairing sidewalks and curbs, and installing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant curb ramps.
Information about this project was made available at a public pre-construction meeting held in June 2019. Access the presentation here. For more information about this project and other upcoming work, please visit roadwork.nola.gov or call 504.658.ROAD (7623).
