Roubion Roads and Streets, LLC continues construction of the Safe Routes to School project near the International School of Louisiana. The project is currently 95 percent complete and on schedule to be wrapped up by the time classes resume at the International School of Louisiana.
The project will improve children’s access to school campuses and encourage healthy lifestyle habits such as walking and biking. A cost share project between the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and the City of New Orleans, Department of Public Works, the scope of work includes:
- Restoring the underground box canal using construction methods prescribed by the State Historic Preservation Office;
- Replacing the damaged sidewalk above the canal;
- Installing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant curb ramps at the intersection of Camp and Race Streets; and
- Installing a new 4 ft, ADA-compliant sidewalk on Euterpe Street which required removing four unhealthy, ash trees and replacing them with four healthy C hinese pistache trees. (Tree planting will occur in November during the regular tree-planting season.)
