Earlier this month, residents at West End Boulevard and Jewel Street were awakened in the middle of the night by the sound of water slamming into a house from a main break. Luckily for the occupants, a huge tree protected their property from receiving anything more than superficial damage.
The S&WB Emergency Crew was on the scene almost immediately to “valve-down the line” so that the water would stop spraying but simultaneously allow residents to continue to have some water-pressure.
The crew returned to West End at 7am to repair the main; however, just up the street, the pipe sprang another leak. While the crew was working on that repair, yet another leak showed up.
The same crew also got another emergency call for a broken main in New Orleans East that morning.
By the end of that day, the emergency crew had repaired a total of six water main breaks in one day.
