Command Construction Industries, LLC and their subcontractor AllStar Electric, LLC have installed new streetlights and a pervious (allows water to pass through) concrete parking lane on the lake side of South Galvez Street between Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Toledano Street. The streetlights were moved from the neutral ground to the curb side of the roadway to help illuminate the neighborhood.
The new pervious concrete parking lane is one of the final items to be installed on the lake side of the project and will help to minimize street side flooding on the roadway. This is the first City project in Central City to include use of pervious concrete.
The South Galvez Street Infrastructure Improvement Project will enhance the public area and trigger subsequent recovery and investment in surrounding neighborhoods. The project was designed in accordance with the City of New Orleans’ Complete Streets policy.
The scope of work for this project includes full reconstruction of the roadway:
- Replacing the existing sewer, water and drainage lines;
- Widening the neutral ground;
- Narrowing the roadway from 35 ft. to 26 ft.; and
- Reconfiguring the roadway from two travel lanes and one parking lane to one travel lane, one dedicated bicycle lane and one parking lane.
