DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS MAINTENANCE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS PROGRESSING AROUND THE CITY

On the West Bank, DPW began the $400K city funded Bocage Maintenance Improvements project in mid-July. Work includes replacement of concrete roadway panels on the 3600-3700 blocks of Rue Andree, 3500-3700 blocks of Rue Colette, and the 3500-3700 blocks of Rue Delphine, Rue Denise, Rue Michelle, Rue Mignon, and Rue Nichole. The project also includes replacement of sidewalks as needed.

The Lawrence Street improvement project (from Sumner to Shirley/dead end) is now complete. Crews poured concrete sidewalks and a bike/walk pathway on Shirley at Lawrence and also made drainage improvements at Saux and Lawrence. Funded by the City of New Orleans, the $190K project was finished in early July.

In early July, crews from Barriere construction began improvements along Notre Dame Street between Magazine Street and Convention Center Boulevard. The $800K city-funded project includes installing new permeable parking lanes to help with stormwater drainage. There will be three feet of stormwater storage and a perforated pipe installed underneath the pavement. The surface of the street will be repaved from curb to curb and new sidewalks will be installed as well.  Construction is scheduled to be complete in late 2020, weather permitting.

In July, crews began a $624K Lakeview Pervious Alleyway Restoration bond-funded pilot project that will cover two blocks of alleyways. The scope of work includes a combination of permeable (allows water to move through) concrete with a perforated pipe underneath to hold storm water and regular concrete. The work will ensure that sanitation and other vehicles can use the alleyways without damaging the permeable panel. Work is anticipated to take approximately one month to complete on each alleyway block.

The $250K city-funded Village De L’Est Healthy Community Trail is being installed behind residences on Lourdes Street between Michoud Boulevard and the canal. To date, the base course has been installed and fine grading has been completed. The asphalt wearing course and final layer of asphalt are slated to be installed by early August, weather permitting.

The patch mill overlay project from I-510 to Read Boulevard  on Almonaster is complete, as well as the majority of the asphalt overlay project on Aurora from Norland to Kingston. Final details are slated to be finished by the end of July.
