Command Construction crews are continuing to connect the Easton Park storage tank system to the St. Louis Canal. While the connection is being constructed at several locations across the Lafitte Greenway, bicycle and pedestrian traffic is being diverted onto a temporary surface adjacent to the greenway and around the construction.
Street paving, curb replacement and catch basin connections have all started on St. Peter Street. Crews will then move to other unfinished portions of the site to finish paving sidewalks and curbs while installing semi-permeable parking areas.
The $7.1M Hagan-Lafitte project is a "gray-green" infrastructure project that will feature upsized drainage, urban bioswales and a huge water storage facility located underneath Easton Park.
The goals for the project, which is now scheduled to be complete by fall 2020 weather permitting, include:
- Increasing drainage to reduce flooding;
- Utilizing green infrastructure to slow, retain, and absorb storm water;
- Beautifying with green areas;
- Replenishing groundwater; and
- Storing rainwater underground.
