Later this summer the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will begin an improvement project along North Claiborne between Poydras Street and St. Bernard Avenue. The project will also include LA 39 from St. Bernard Avenue to the west side of the Judge Seeber Bridge.
The scope of the road improvement project includes intersection improvements at Gravier Street and Esplanade Avenue, as well as a two-inch mill and overlay of the roadway with asphalt, installation of new ADA-compliant curb ramps, replacement of guard rails, and the application of new pavement striping and markers.
The Mayor’s Office of Economic Development, RoadworkNOLA, Stay Local and representatives from DOTD have already met with businesses along the corridor to discuss construction impacts.
There will be no lane closures allowed between 7 – 9 a.m. and from 3—7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and at least one lane in each direction will always be open. No work will take place during the New Year’s, Mardi Gras, Easter, Jazz Fest, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas holiday periods, as well as during New Orleans Saints home game. All lanes will be open in preparation for or during any hurricane evacuation procedures.
