In June, crews finished installing new curbs and gutters and began pouring new sidewalks and driveways aprons. The northbound lanes of Canal Boulevard are scheduled to be complete in early July and the roadway will be opened to two-way traffic so work can begin on the southbound lanes between Robert E. Lee Boulevard and Amethyst Street.
The scope of the $4.5M Canal Boulevard Reconstruction project includes replacing the drain, sewer and water lines, rebuilding the street entirely, repairing sidewalks and curbs, installing a dedicated bike lane and installing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) complaint curb ramps. Construction crews anticipate completing the northbound lanes and beginning work on the southbound lanes later this spring. The northbound lanes will be converted to two-way traffic while construction is underway on the southbound lanes.
Information about this project was made available at a pre-construction public meeting held in June 2019. Access the presentation here.
