General road construction paused for several weeks while issues related to Command Construction's contract were resolved. We recognize that this has not been ideal and apologize for any inconvenience the delay has caused.
Now, Command Construction is preparing to connect massive drainage pipes across the Lafitte Greenway and into the St. Louis Canal. This tie-in will link the 1.2 million gallon-storage tanks beneath Easton Park into the larger drainage system and reduce localized flooding in the area. Curb replacement throughout the project area will also resume in the next few weeks.
The $7.1M Hagan-Lafitte project is a "gray-green" infrastructure project that will feature upsized drainage, urban bioswales and a huge water storage facility located underneath Easton Park.
The goals for the project, which is scheduled to be complete by fall 2020 weather permitting, include:
• Increasing drainage to reduce flooding;
• Utilizing green infrastructure to slow, retain, and absorb storm water;
• Beautifying with green areas;
• Replenishing groundwater; and
• Storing rainwater underground.
