Command Construction Industries, LLC is currently excavating the roadway to install new drainage lines on the lake side of S. Galvez Street between Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Toledano Street. These pipes will be placed beneath the pervious (allows water to pass through) concrete parking lane. The new pervious concrete parking lane will one of the final items to be installed on the lake side of the project, prior to crews switching their work to the river side of the project limits.
Toward the end of this month, construction crews will be implementing a short lane reduction at the intersection of S. Galvez and Toledano streets. A news release with specific details about the lane reduction will be released when they are finalized.
The S. Galvez Street Infrastructure Improvement Project will enhance the public area and trigger subsequent recovery and investment in surrounding neighborhoods. The project was designed in accordance with the City of New Orleans’ Complete Streets policy.
The scope of work for this project includes full reconstruction of the roadway, including:
- Replacing the existing sewer, water and drainage lines;
- Widening the neutral ground;
- Narrowing the roadway from 35 ft. to 26 ft.; and
- Reconfiguring the roadway from two travel lanes and one parking lane to one travel lane, one dedicated bicycle lane and one parking lane.
