The Department of Public Works has started construction on the first of four planned construction projects, designed to improve infrastructure in the Desire neighborhood.
At this time, the total estimated budget including engineering, design, geotechnical testing and construction planned in the entire Desire neighborhood is approximately $24M. This budget could change pending project bids and construction costs.
Designed by Phoenix Global Engineering and Construction, Inc., the first project is being constructed by Hard Rock Construction, LLC. Crews are currently marking out planned excavation sites. The scope of work varies by block and includes:
- Patch Mill / Overlay: Repaving the asphalt roadway from curb to curb and repairing damaged sidewalks;
- Patch Concrete: Removing damaged portions of the concrete roadway and replacing it with new smooth concrete pavement;
- Incidental Road Repairs: Removing damaged portions of the asphalt roadway and replacing it with new smooth pavement; and
- Non-Paving Incidentals: Repairing damaged sidewalks, driveway aprons and curbs within the public right-of-way.
The City hosted a pre-construction public meeting to discuss anticipated impacts prior to the start of construction. View a copy of the presentation here. To be added to the project contact list, and to track our progress, visit RoadWork.nola.gov.
