The Department of Public Works’ construction contractor, Hard Rock Construction, LLC, is now 50 percent complete with the first of three planned FEMA-funded construction projects in the Village de L’est neighborhood.
Crews are currently removing the top layer of asphalt in the neighborhood between Michoud Boulevard and Toulon Street and will be placing fresh asphalt pavement this month as the majority of the concrete work is underway or has been completed in this area. This work is being closely coordinated with the Michoud Boulevard Reconstruction project. The scope of work varies depending on the condition of the roadway surface and underground utilities. View the project map here to see what work is planned on your block.
The type of work planned varies by block but will include the following:
- Patch Mill / Overlay: Repaving the asphalt roadway from curb to curb and repairing damaged sidewalks;
- Patch Concrete: Removing damaged portions of the concrete roadway and replacing it with new smooth concrete pavement;
- Incidental Road Repairs: Removing damaged portions of the asphalt roadway and replacing it with new smooth pavement; and
- Non-Paving Incidentals: Repairing damaged sidewalks, driveway aprons and curbs within the public right-of-way.
