Public safety is our priority as we continue making infrastructure upgrades. There is an extraordinary amount of work under way across the city – 60 road work projects valued at more than $600M - and much more coming down the pipeline.
We are managing local, state, and federal funds —in most cases with overlapping regulations that must be followed. The coordination of these programs is highly complex, but we remain focused on accountability as a critical responsibility. By demonstrating that our projects and programs are progressing, we are positioning the City to be an ideal local government candidate to receive additional federal infrastructure funds.
The rapid progress we are making has undoubtedly introduced challenges and hardship in some cases for our residents. But we all have a shared goal – which is to safely upgrade our infrastructure, to improve the overall quality of life and to make our city more resilient. So, I ask for your continued patience and partnership along the way.
With hurricane season now under way, we are working alongside city contractors to ensure that they are well positioned to secure sites ahead of any tropical weather event should the need arise. The RoadworkNOLA success stories highlighted in this newsletter include:
- District A: The sidewalks are being framed around Easton Park as Command Construction Industries, LLC finishes the final portions of the $7.1M Hagan Lafitte Drainage project. The project, which is 99 percent complete, will reduce localized flooding by storing up to 1.3 million gallons of storm water.
- District B: Waterline work continues in close collaboration with the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans on the $9.1M Central City Group A project. The team remains laser-focused on completing curbing and repaving; the entire project is scheduled to be completed in fall 2021.
- District C: The $8.1M West Bank Group B project, which began construction in March 2020, has now resumed on Richland Road as well as Ptlomey, Odeon and Magellan streets with asphalt pavement installation. Crews are also working on concrete paving activities on Mercedes Boulevard and Halsey Streets.
- District D: The $4.5M Canal Boulevard Reconstruction (Robert E. Lee Boulevard – Amethyst Street) project is now complete. The scope of work included replacing the drainage, sewer and water lines, repairing sidewalks and curbs, as well as installing a dedicated bike lane and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) complaint curb ramps.
- District E: The $3.2M Pines Village Group B project has been declared substantially complete. The scope of work included replacing damaged underground drainage lines, repaving the roadway, replacing damaged sidewalks and driveway aprons, and installing ADA-compliant curb ramps at intersections.
Sincerely,
