Command Construction Industries, LLC has completed all the utility work on the river side of S. Galvez Street between Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Toledano Street. Traffic on Toledano Street has resumed to two lanes. The river side traffic is detoured to S. Claiborne Avenue and S. Broad Street for the duration of construction. Poor weather continues to delay this project; construction is now scheduled to last until the spring of 2019.
Construction crews have completed all the concrete road work required for the travel lane on the river side of the project. Crews have also completed installing curbs on the river side of the project. This month crews will continue working on sidewalk installation and be preparing the roadbed for a pervious (allows water to move through) parking lane concrete placement.
Crews will need to install the permanent pavement on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard; the paving work will require a brief lane closure. Follow RoadworkNOLA on social media to receive a copy of the traffic advisory when this work is scheduled.
The S. Galvez Street Infrastructure Improvement Project will enhance the public area and trigger subsequent recovery and investment in surrounding neighborhoods. The project was designed in accordance with the City of New Orleans’ Complete Streets policy.
Landscaping is scheduled to be planted at the end of the project.
The scope of work for this project includes full reconstruction of the roadway, including:
- Replacing the existing sewer, water and drainage lines;
- Widening the neutral ground;
- Narrowing the roadway from 35 ft. to 26 ft.; and
- Reconfiguring the roadway from two travel lanes and one parking lane to one travel lane, one dedicated bicycle lane and one parking lane.
