Command Construction Industries, LLC crews are now 65 percent complete with the $11.8M Fleur de Lis Drive Phase III Reconstruction Project between 30th Street and Old Hammond Highway in the West End neighborhood.
The traffic detour needed for construction recently shifted. There is currently one lane of one-way traffic on the traditionally northbound travel lane between 37th Street and Old Hammond Highway. The portion of the northbound travel lane between 30th Street and 37th Street continues to be closed as crews place fresh concrete on the roadway. The traditionally south (river) bound lane, between Old Hammond Highway and Portland Street is now closed as crews excavate and replace existing utilities. The traditionally southbound lane between Portland Street and 30th Street has been temporarily shifted to two-way traffic while crews excavate the roadway and work on installing new sewer lines. The majority of traditionally southbound travel has been re-routed to minor streets.
Concrete paving operations in the northbound travel lane and sidewalks are nearly complete as crews tie in new concrete pavement on the side streets. Concrete placements will begin in the traditionally southbound lane this month. A landscaping crew also recently installed sod on portions of the northbound travel lane. Once the grass has taken root, residents can begin mowing as they would have prior to construction.
Residents should expect to see four crews on site full time with an extra asphalt crew assigned to the project as milestones are reached.
Residents are reminded to use caution when walking, biking and driving through active construction sites and be mindful of onsite traffic detour signage, safety barrels and cones.
The scope of work includes:
- Removing and replacing the underground water, sewer and drainage lines;
- Repaving the roadway; and
- Installing new sidewalks and Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at intersections.
The project is scheduled to be complete in fall 2018.
