The Department of Public Works’ construction contractor, Fleming Construction Co., LLC, in collaboration with the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, continues to replace water lines on the $4.8M Lower Ninth Ward Northwest Group A project. Replacement of water lines requires the new utilities to be tied in to the existing water supply. While this process is being performed, residents in the area will experience low water pressure. The RoadWork team will continue to notify residents within 48-hours of all planned tie-ins.
Currently, crews are working in the western portions of the project (bounded by N. Claiborne Avenue, Jackson Barracks, Florida Avenur and Caffin Avenue). They are on schedule to transition into the southern and eastern portions of the project (bounded by N. Claiborne Avenue, Deslonde Street, Florida Avenue and Caffin Avenue) in June.
The scope of work for this project includes:
- Repaving the asphalt roadway from curb-to-curb;
- Patching the roadway with asphalt;
- Repairing damaged sidewalks and driveway aprons;
- Installing Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at appropriate intersections; and
- Replacing/repairing damaged underground water, sewer and/or drainage lines.
Work is projected to be complete on the entire project in winter 2019.
