Command Construction Industries, LLC crews are currently 45 percent complete with the $5.4M S. Galvez St. Reconstruction Project in Central City.
Construction crews continue to place concrete in the river bound parking and future bicycle lanes as well as the intersection cross overs through the neutral ground. Crews will begin installing drainage at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in the next couple weeks.
The travel lane reduction on the river bound lane of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, between S. Miro Street continues and will include a temporary detour to the lake bound lane in the next couple of weeks. The detour is needed to facilitate installation of new drainage pipes on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard; however, one lane of through traffic will be maintained at all time.
Funded with a Federal Community Development Block Grant, the S. Galvez St. Infrastructure Improvement Project will enhance the public area and trigger subsequent recovery and investment in surrounding neighborhoods. The project was designed in accordance with the City of New Orleans’ Complete Streets policy.
The scope of work for this project includes full reconstruction of the roadway including:
- Replacing the existing sewer, water and drainage lines;
- Widening the neutral ground;
- Narrowing the roadway from 35 ft. to 26 ft.; and
- Reconfiguring the roadway from two travel lanes and a parking lane to one travel lane, one dedicated bicycle lane, and a parking lane.
