In early 2020, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and development (DOTD) will begin an improvement project along North Claiborne between Poydras Street and St. Bernard Avenue. The project will also include LA 39 from St. Bernard Avenue to the west side of the Judge Seeber Bridge.
There will be intersection improvements at Gravier Street and Esplanade Avenue, and the scope of this project calls for a 2” mill and overlay of the roadway with asphalt concrete, installation of new handicapped curb ramps, replacement of guard rails, and the application of new pavement striping and markers.
There will be no lane closures allowed between 7 – 9 a.m. and from 3—7 a.m., Monday through Friday, and at least one lane in each direction will be open at all times. No work will take place during the New Year’s, Mardi Gras, Easter, Jazz Fest, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas holiday periods, as well as during New Orleans Saints home game. All lanes will be open in preparation for or during any hurricane evacuation procedures.
Representatives from DOTD, the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development, RoadworkNOLA and Stay Local have already been meeting with businesses along the corridor to discuss construction impacts. A preconstruction community meeting will be held in the January timeframe.
