Command Construction crews are working to complete key resilience features with the addition of semipermeable sidewalks, parking areas and rain gardens in the Hagan Lafitte Drainage Project.
The semipermeable pavement will be able to structurally support the weight of vehicles and pedestrian traffic while still allowing stormwater to drain through the concrete into aquifers that will drain into the city’s system.
The $7.1M Hagan-Lafitte project is a "gray-green" infrastructure project that will feature upsized drainage, urban bioswales and a huge water storage facility located underneath Easton Park.
The goals for the project, which is scheduled to be complete later this fall, weather permitting, include:
- Increasing drainage to reduce flooding;
- Utilizing green infrastructure to slow, retain, and absorb storm water;
- Beautifying with green areas;
- Replenishing groundwater; and
- Storing rainwater underground.
