Work has now resumed on the $700K Lafitte Corridor Greenway’s North Lopez Pedestrian Bridge project, as the project team worked on re-designing the north and south pile caps of the bridge due to their condition and location. The project involves a new bike and pedestrian bridge over the St. Louis Canal along the Lafitte Greenway. It is being designed by Rahman and Associates, Inc., and the contractor is Cycle Construction Co., LLC. Funding for the project is provided by City of New Orleans bonds and Louisiana DOTD Federal Highway Administration funds.
Construction is scheduled to be complete in the winter 2022, weather permitting. The scope of work includes:
- Removing the existing bridge structure over the canal;
- Removing existing catch basin drains and replacing with new catch basins and drainpipe;
- Installing a new pedestrian bridge over the canal;
- Installing new concrete and asphalt approach slabs on each side of the bridge for pedestrian use;
- Installing drainage culvert in Lafitte Greenway bioswale; and
- Installing safety bollards to prevent motor vehicle traffic from entering the bridge.
A virtual community meeting about the project was held on Feb. 11, 2021. You can access the presentation from that meeting here.
