Working in close collaberation with Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, Barriere Construction continues to address critical waterline work on First Street on the Central City Group A project.
There are six waterlines on First Street (Magnolia Street to St. Charles Avenue) that require tie-ins to the existing water supply. This work has to be done in phases in order to avoid a drop in water pressure.
Upon completion of the tie-ins, crews will begin the paving operations in the October timeframe.
The project will continue with weekend work to remain ahead of days that have been lost to weather and holidays.
Any residents that require reasonable accommodations on the site are encouraged to call the Roadwork NOLA hotline. Residents will continue to be informed ahead of any work that will involve utility disruption and / or impact their parking and access to their streets.
This $9.1M full-depth reconstruction project was designed by C.H. Fenstermaker and Associates, LLC. The scope of work varies block by block but includes the following:
- Replace damaged underground water, sewer and drainage lines;
- Repave the roadway;
- Replace damaged sidewalks and driveway aprons; and
- Install Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at intersections.
The City of New Orleans hosted a virtual community meeting via WebEx in August 2020 to discuss anticipated impacts to the community. View a copy of the presentation here.
