Command Construction crews, in close collaboration with the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, continue waterline work on the Lower Ninth Ward South Group A infrastructure improvement project. Crews have completed a substantial amount of the installations and tie-ins on this project and will commence paving immediately after lines are tied in to the existing water supply.
Department of Public Works project leads are working with the contractor to ensure that roadways under construction are properly barricaded. They are also stressing the importance of maintaining temporary access until roadways are re-paved.
Residents in the area continue to be notified of work that will impact their access and / or cause disruption to their utilities. RoadworkNOLA will also notify residents in advance of any extended day or weekend work that may be necessary.
This $7.6M project was designed by IMS Engineers and is being constructed by Command Construction Industries, LLC.
Construction started in August 2020 and is expected to be complete in fall 2021, weather permitting. This is a patch, mill, overlay with incidental road repairs project and work varies block by block to include:
- Replacing damaged underground water, sewer and drainage lines;
- Repaving the roadway;
- Replacing damaged sidewalks and driveway aprons; and
- Installing Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at intersections.
The City of New Orleans hosted a virtual community meeting via Webex in July 2020 to discuss anticipated impacts to the community. View a copy of the presentation here.
