The first of six FEMA-funded construction projects that will improve infrastructure in the New Orleans East area between Read Blvd., Interstate-510, Chef Menteur Highway and Interstate-10 - known formally as the Read Blvd. East neighborhood - is scheduled to begin in early December. The approximately $3.9M construction contract was awarded to Hard Rock Construction, LLC and includes a variety of construction types. The type of work planned varies by block but will include the following:
- Patch Mill / Overlay: Repave the asphalt roadway from curb to curb and repair damaged sidewalks.
- Patch Concrete: Remove damaged portions of the concrete roadway and replace it with new smooth concrete pavement.
- Incidental Road Repairs: Remove damaged portions of the asphalt roadway and replace it with new smooth pavement.
- Non-Paving Incidentals: Repair damaged sidewalks, driveway aprons and curbs within the public right-of-way.
Prior to construction, the City will host a public meeting to discuss general construction sequencing and construction impacts residents can expect during the project.
