Command Construction Industries, LLC crews are currently 35 percent complete with the $5.4M S. Galvez St. Reconstruction Project in Central City.
Following installation of the underground utilities on the river bound lane of the roadway between Toledano St. and Third St., construction crews placed concrete in the parking and future bicycle lanes. Crews are now installing new underground utilities in the river bound lane between Third St. and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
There is currently a travel lane reduction on the river bound lane of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., between S. Miro St. and immediately following the intersection of S. Galvez St. Please note a temporary full closure of the river bound lane is possible in the next couple of weeks.
Funded with a Federal Community Development Block Grant, the S. Galvez St. Infrastructure Improvement Project will enhance the public area and trigger subsequent recovery and investment in surrounding neighborhoods. The project was designed in accordance with the City of New Orleans’ Complete Streets policy.
The scope of work for this project includes full reconstruction of the roadway including:
- Replacing the existing sewer, water and drainage lines;
- Widening the neutral ground;
- Narrowing the roadway from 35 ft. to 26 ft.; and
- Reconfiguring the roadway from two travel lanes and a parking lane to one travel lane, one dedicated bicycle lane, and a parking lane.
