Two FEMA-funded construction projects that will improve infrastructure in the Lower Ninth Ward are tentatively scheduled to start construction later this year.
The type of work planned varies by block but will include the following:
- Patch Mill / Overlay: Repave the asphalt roadway from curb to curb and repair damaged sidewalks.
- Patch Concrete: Remove damaged portions of the concrete roadway and replace it with new smooth concrete pavement.
- Incidental Road Repairs: Remove damaged portions of the asphalt roadway and replace it with new smooth pavement.
- Non-Paving Incidentals: Repair damaged sidewalks, driveway aprons and curbs within the public right-of-way.
The Lower Ninth Ward Northwest Group A, is scheduled to begin construction in November 2017. The project was awarded to Fleming Construction Co. LLC, and is being designed by the architectural firm of Burk-Kleinpeter, Inc.
The Lower Ninth Ward Northeast Group A, is scheduled to begin in December 2017. The project was awarded to Beverly Construction and is being designed by the architectural firm of Neel - Schaffer, Inc.
