The $7.1M Hagan-Lafitte project is a "gray-green" infrastructure project that will help to alleviate localized flooding in this area. The completed site will feature upsized drainage, urban bioswales and huge water storage facility located underneath Easton Park.
Command Construction crews are working to install a new 36-inch arch drainage pipe underground on the corner of N. Salcedo and St. Peter streets in the Lafitte neighborhood.
The goals for the project, which is scheduled to be complete by summer 2020 weather permitting, include:
- Increasing drainage to reduce flooding;
- Utilizing green infrastructure to slow, retain, and absorb storm water;
- Beautifying with green areas;
- Replenishing groundwater; and
- Storing rainwater underground.
