We are making significant headway in fixing our infrastructure. Combining local and federal dollars, our $2.3 billion Capital Improvement Project is the most comprehensive infrastructure revamp our region has seen in decades. The City is giving new projects the go-ahead and working to keep current projects on schedule so that we can swiftly work to improve our roads.
The RoadworkNOLA success stories highlighted in this newsletter include:
District A: The City and DOTD recently began work on a nearly $3 million, 40-day rehabilitation project on Marconi Drive and Orleans avenue. The scope of the project includes lane reconfiguration; construction of a new ADA-compliant bus loading island on Marconi Drive and Orleans Avenue; as well as installation of protected bikeways along a portion of both roadways.
District B: Work progresses on the Mid-City Group A $6.3 million project. Crews continue on Palmyra and Toulouse streets. The scope of work includes patch concrete work, incidental road repairs, drainage repairs and repairing damaged sidewalks.
District C: The Westbank FEMA-funded road work has ramped up to include additional repairs on nearly 20 more blocks. The now $7.8 million project, which is the first of two planned FEMA-funded construction projects on the Westbank of New Orleans, will be completed in 2020.
District D: Projects included in the $141 million Gentilly Resilience District (GRD) construction, granted via the HUD National Disaster Resilience Competition, are in advanced stages of design. Part of the GRD project includes the Community Adaptation Program, which offers grant assistance to low-to-moderate income eligible homeowners in the Gentilly Resilience District project area.
District E: The Read Boulevard West project is set to be completed in the coming weeks. Remaining curb repairs and patch roadway work is being finished by construction crews. This is the first of two projects planned in the neighborhood.
Sincerely,
LaToya Cantrell
