Command Construction Industries, LLC crews are currently 30 percent complete with the $5.4M S. Galvez St. Reconstruction Project in Central City.
Following installation of the roadway base, crews have already completed two concrete pours on the river bound lane while a third concrete pour is scheduled for this week. Paving operations have gone smoothly thus far as crews are using a concrete roller to accelerate the pours. The roadway will soon be available for residents use only.
The project runs from Toledano St. to Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Safety fencing and signage is in place to ensure residents and commuters are safe while traveling near the construction site.
Funded with a Federal Community Development Block Grants, the S. Galvez St. Infrastructure Improvement Project will enhance the public area and trigger subsequent recovery and investment in surrounding neighborhoods. The project was designed in accordance with the City of New Orleans’ Complete Streets policy.
The scope of work for this project includes full reconstruction of the roadway including:
- Replacing the existing sewer, water and drainage lines;
- Widening the neutral ground;
- Narrowing the roadway from 35 ft. to 26 ft.; and
- Reconfiguring the roadway from two travel lanes and a parking lane, to one travel lane, one dedicated bicycle lane, and a parking lane.
