Command Construction Industries, LLC has completed construction on the lake side of S. Galvez Street between Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Toledano Street and re-opened the roadway to local traffic.
Traffic on the river side of S. Galvez Street between Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Toledano Street is being detoured to S. Claiborne Avenue and S. Broad Street for the duration of construction. Construction crews have completed installation of the majority of the drainage lines and are currently installing new water lines. This project includes repairing damaged portions of the sewer pipes. Utility work is scheduled to last for approximately one more month.
The S. Galvez Street Infrastructure Improvement Project will enhance the public area and stimulate subsequent recovery and investment in surrounding neighborhoods. The project was designed in accordance with the City of New Orleans’ Complete Streets policy.
The scope of work for this project includes full reconstruction of the roadway, including:
- Replacing the existing sewer, water and drainage lines;
- Widening the neutral ground;
- Narrowing the roadway from 35 ft. to 26 ft.; and
- Reconfiguring the roadway from two travel lanes and one parking lane to one travel lane, one dedicated bicycle lane and one parking lane.
The S. Galvez Street reconstruction project is scheduled to be completed by Thanksgiving 2018.
