The Department of Public Works’ construction contractor, Hard Rock Construction, LLC, has now completed 74 percent of the first of three planned FEMA-funded construction projects in the Village De L’Est neighborhood.
Construction crews are working east of Michoud Boulevard and north of Lourdes Street, as well as in the neighborhood surrounding Alcee Fortier Boulevard. Crews are concentrating on roadway paving operations and sidewalk work. The original contract included a 15-month construction duration, but at this time the project team anticipates completing work this fall, several months ahead of schedule.
The scope of work for this project varies depending on the condition of the roadway surface and underground utilities but includes:
- Patch Mill / Overlay: Repaving the asphalt roadway from curb to curb and repairing damaged sidewalks;
- Patch Concrete: Removing damaged portions of the concrete roadway and replacing them with new, smooth concrete pavement;
- Incidental Road Repairs: Removing damaged portions of the asphalt roadway and replacing them with new, smooth pavement; and
- Non-Paving Incidentals: Repairing damaged sidewalks, driveway aprons and curbs within the public right-of-way.
