After being delayed because of high water levels in the Mississippi River, the City’s contractor for the West Bank Group A project, Durr Heavy Construction Co., has now returned to Algiers Point to finish asphalt patching.
Residents are asked to be mindful of ‘No Parking’ signs installed prior to roadwork. Vehicles are eligible for towing if not moved within 24 hours once signs are in place.
After work started on this project, additional repairs were deemed necessary due to the current state of the pavement or drainage. The scope of the project was expanded to include nearly 20 more blocks.
The now $7.8M project, which is the first of two planned FEMA-funded construction projects on the Westbank of New Orleans, will be wrapped up in 2020.
View the project map here. The type of work planned varies by block but includes the following:
- Patch Mill/Overlay: Repaving the asphalt roadway from curb to curb and repair damaged sidewalks;
- Patch Concrete: Removing damaged portions of the concrete roadway and replace it with new smooth concrete pavement;
- Incidental Road Repairs: Removing damaged portions of the asphalt roadway and replace it with new smooth pavement; and
- Non-Paving Incidentals: Repairing damaged sidewalks, driveway aprons and curbs within the public right-of-way.
