Command Construction crews are building bioswales and semi-permeable parking areas in the Hagan-Lafitte Drainage Upgrades and Green Infrastructure Project. These “green” additions are an environmentally-safe way to drain stormwater from the neighborhood and filter it into the city’s larger drainage system.
The street paving and sidewalk repair also continues on St. Peter and Toulouse streets and will continue throughout the project area until they are complete.
The $7.1M Hagan-Lafitte project is a "gray-green" infrastructure project that will feature upsized drainage, urban bioswales and a huge water storage facility located underneath Easton Park.
The goals for the project, which is scheduled to be complete by fall 2020 weather permitting, include:
- Increasing drainage to reduce flooding;
- Utilizing green infrastructure to slow, retain, and absorb storm water;
- Beautifying with green areas;
- Replenishing groundwater; and
- Storing rainwater underground.
