Public safety is our priority as we continue our infrastructure work during this trying time for our city. With hurricane season now under way, we are working with our contractors to ensure that their plans are finalized to secure sites ahead of any tropical weather event.
The well-being of the crews working at our myriad job sites is also paramount, which is why we are in constant communication with our contractors to ensure that all workers are washing hands regularly, practicing social distancing on sites and furthermore staying home if they are feeling sick in any way.
On our capital side, we currently have 17 projects under construction valued at more than $78M. Between maintenance projects and RoadworkNOLA (Joint Infrastructure Program), we currently have 62 Department of Public Works projects under construction valued at nearly $375M.
The RoadworkNOLA success stories highlighted in this newsletter include:
- District A: The $7.1 million Hagan-Lafitte project is progressing, with construction crews building bioswales and semi-permeable parking areas. The Hagan-Lafitte project is a "gray-green" infrastructure project that will feature upsized drainage, urban bioswales and a huge water storage facility located underneath Easton Park.
- District B: Project work by the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center on reconstructing Convention Center Boulevard between Poydras and Henderson streets in the Warehouse District, is approximately 92 percent complete. This is part of the $557M Convention Center Development District Project that includes converting Convention Center Boulevard into a landscaped public park.
- District C: Progress is continuing on the $7 million West Bank Group B project, which was designed by Buchart Horn, Inc. and began construction in March 2020. The project contractor continues its focus on Elizardi, Lawrence, Murl, Odeon, Pace, and Shallett streets, as well as Westbend Parkway. The overall scope of work includes street, sidewalk, and curb repairs.
- District D: Significant progress is being made on the Pontilly Neighborhood Stormwater Network, which is a Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP)-leveraged project in the National Disaster Resilience (NDR)-funded portfolio of projects in the Gentilly Resilience District. Community-input sessions, along with ongoing engagement opportunities are an integral part of this project and survey responses are being sought, to inform the initial design.
- District E: Wallace C. Drennan, in close collaboration with Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, continued installations and tie-ins of water lines on the $5.1 million Lower Ninth Ward Northwest Group B project in September. While crews continue with water line installations and tie-ins, concrete crews are being deployed to begin forming and pouring back roadways.
