Mayor LaToya Cantrell and members of the City Council have approved a change to the City code which increases the citation fee for illegally parking in a bike lane from $40 to $300. Parking in a bike lane has been a towable offense since 2017.
The City’s Complete Streets Policy calls for the transportation system to meet the needs of all users including pedestrians, drivers, cyclists and transit riders. Learn more about sharing the road here.
The City’s Parking Enforcement Officers will be inserting Courtesy Notices about the fee increase into citation envelopes given for illegally parking in a bike lane until the fee increase goes into effect on April 22, 2019.
Current enforcement regulations are still in place and being enforced. Illegally parked vehicles can be cited $40 and immediately towed. The towing fee is $161.25, plus storage fees.
