Message from the Mayor

The City of New Orleans remains focused on its infrastructure program, and I am proud of our ability to continue our economic activity in the design and construction industries throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Although this focus has been greatly challenged by the myriad issues ahead of and following Hurricane Ida,  we have now resumed work on the majority of road work projects; 69 projects valued at more than $600 million. The City is simultaneously focused on implementing procedural changes that will better hold contractors accountable for completing projects more rapidly, and lessening the residential impact throughout the city. This month, we will begin publishing performance ratings for all contractors and projects on the RoadworkNOLA website to offer a higher level of transparency.

Asphalt re-paving is completing along St. Ann Street, Dumaine Street and Treme Street, weather permitting. ADA-approved sidewalk infrastructure repair and installation will continue along Bayou Road and throughout the project site.

BAYOU ST. JOHN, FAIRGROUNDS, SEVENTH WARD GROUP D PROJECT UNDERWAY

Beverly Construction began work on the $2.1M Bayou St John, Fairgrounds, Seventh Ward Group D  infrastructure improvement project this summer. Crews are currently working on drain and sewer work on Chalfant Place and Wilshire Place. Weekend and after-hours work has been approved in order for the contractor to make up for time lost to inclement weather. The extended hours allow for the contractor to complete critical work in timely manner, minimizing the amount of time construction impacts residents.

Barriere Construction crews are working to complete work on both Crete and Lepage streets on the $23M Bayou St. John, Fairgrounds, Seventh Ward Group B roadway improvement project. Work was delayed on these blocks as the contractor worked with both the Department of Public Works and Sewerage and Water Board on needed expanded scope. Crews have now completed the waterline tie-in to the existing water supply and paving operations are anticipated to commence in the next couple weeks.
