MAX PAVE PROGRAM

Rejuvenating Our Roads

The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) continually performs routine repairs to the city’s water and sewer pipes that lie below city streets.  Once a repair is complete, the utility cut is backfilled temporarily with sand and crushed concrete.  The temporary fill in these cuts often erodes, leaving uneven pavement.  To make the roads safer for motorists and neighborhood residents and help SWBNO with its backlog, the Department of Public Works invested $6.5 M in Capital Funds to permanently pave 860 open utility cuts across the city.

City of New Orleans and Department of Public Works’ construction contractor, Durr Heavy Construction, LLC, is set to begin a $753,000 city-funded refurbishment project on three New Orleans East bridges this month.  Crews will work successively beginning with the Morrison Canal Bridge and the overall project will take approximately seven months to complete.  Public safety is our top priority; residents and commuters should plan to travel at slower speeds and use caution when driving, bicycling and walking near these construction sites.
