Command Construction Industries, LLC has completed installation of the new pervious (allows water to pass through) concrete parking lane on the lake side of S. Galvez Street between Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Toledano Street. The lake side of the project will re-open to local traffic this week. This is the first City project in Central City to include use of pervious concrete.
On the river side lane, crews continue to install new drainage lines near the neutral ground. The river side lane is scheduled to close so crews can begin installation of the new water line and make repairs to the sewer line this month.
The S. Galvez Street Infrastructure Improvement Project will enhance the public area and trigger subsequent recovery and investment in surrounding neighborhoods. The project was designed in accordance with the City of New Orleans’ Complete Streets policy.
The scope of work for this project includes full reconstruction of the roadway:
- Replacing the existing sewer, water and drainage lines;
- Widening the neutral ground;
- Narrowing the roadway from 35 ft. to 26 ft.; and
- Reconfiguring the roadway from two travel lanes and one parking lane to one travel lane, one dedicated bicycle lane and one parking lane.
Details of the construction sequencing are available here. To be added to the project contact list, please e-mail RoadWork@nola.gov.
The S. Galvez Street reconstruction project is now scheduled to be completed by Thanksgiving 2018.
